Letter to the Congregation from the Pastoral Search Committee 2020-2021

 July 1, 2021

Dear members and friends of Stowe Community Church,

As members of the Pastoral Search Committee, we want to express our gratitude for the trust you have placed in us. We have concluded our prayer-filled process of reviewing profiles and interviewing candidates, ultimately reaching a unanimous decision. We are pleased to recommend to you our final candidate for the position of Pastor, to be considered by the congregation at a special meeting on Sunday, July 18, following worship.

Here are the steps that have led us to this point of confidence in the Holy Spirit’s leading:

The Search Committee sought your perspectives on our church’s ministry through a survey and interviews with selected members and friends. Your insights and ideas were incorporated into our church profile that candidates read.

We listed our vacancy with the Vermont Conference Office of the United Church of Christ, as well as on the website of various seminaries, publications, and other relevant employment sites.

We received and reviewed ministerial profiles, reading them with our own local church profile in mind. We viewed numerous sermon videos submitted by 16 candidates. We conducted multiple interviews with four candidates we deemed to be ‘finalists.”

Following a visit to Stowe, we were grateful when our top candidate responded enthusiastically to our invitation to a candidating weekend. Terms of Call were explored with the candidate and approved by our Board of Directors.

Confidentiality has been essential to the entire process of profile review and interviews, so we kept you in necessary suspense. It was important to honor the integrity of our committee’s discernment and to respect candidates’ current ministry settings.

Our candidate is the Rev. Daniel Gary Haugh. Biographical information is on the reverse of this letter.

You will have an opportunity to meet our candidate in worship on Sunday, July 18 when he will preach at the 9:30am traditional service. A congregational meeting will follow worship at which time you will be asked to vote on the Call to our new pastor. There will not be a 1:30pm contemporary service on July 18.

Following worship, you are invited to brunch in the Fellowship Hall to welcome the Haugh family. Please RSVP to Mary Lou at 802-352-7257 or info@stowechurch.org if you plan to attend the brunch.

We have been most grateful during this search process for the excellent interim leadership of Rev. Peter Hammond, and for his support and assistance to the Search Committee.

We are blessed with a wonderful Church community. With hard work and God’s guidance, we will be led by a wonderful Pastor to guide us as we minister in Christ’s name.

The Pastoral Search Committee,

Kathe Rhinesmith, Chair; Scott Noble, Chris DeRienzo, Christina Glowac, David McGaughey, Heather Stowe, Chris Vigneau, Lynne von Trapp.
